This FAQ is intended for, and to be used by persons wishing to host files and websites at x-plane.org. This FAQ contains information which will help you get to know the x-plane.org Web Hosting Services, and how to access and share your files. Revision History 1.0 The first draft, 09 Dec 06. Basics 1.0 The Basics 1.1 What is the path to my files? You may use the path http://hosting.x-plane.org/yourusername to link to your hosting site. Yourusername is the name you use to log in. Don't forget that the system is case sensitive so if you used Mark for example, the username must also be Mark. 1.2 What files are allowed? You may upload any files related to X-Plane. That is files such as aircraft, scenery, movies taken in X-Plane, your avatar, files you wish to share with the community. You may also upload files for other personal use. You may not link files to other sites hosted here without getting the Webmasters approval. Our bandwidth is limited and it is unfair for us to pay for this so that you can share files with other communities. Please drop me a note in the forum or email me if you would like permission to do this. Should you upload files that violoate this policy especially files related to pornography or illegal activity, your account will be deleted, you will be banned from the server and any illegal activity will be reported to the authorities 1.3 How do I upload files to my hosting area? Once you have logged in there are several buttons at the bottom of your hosting administration page. The one marked upload will bring up a new browser window (you may need to allow popups for this to work) click browse to locate the files you wish to upload and then click upload at the bottom when you are ready to upload them. Files will be be sent to X-Plane.Org. MAKE SURE THESE ARE FILES YOU DON'T MIND SHARING. The Web Hosting area is not a secure system. There is no encryption and it isn't too hard to locate your hosting area. 1.4 What if I need more space? You are allowed 50 MB of free hosting space. Should you need more then this, it is available at a small fee. Visit The X-Plane.Org Store to purchase more. Please do not create multiple hosting accounts. All activity is logged and if you are found to violate this policy, your hosting accounts will be deleted without notice and you will be banned from any further access to X-Plane.Org.
